It is situated on the existing Mattel Campus and is dedicated to the best selling toy of all time: Hot Wheels. In order to force residents out of their cherished community, the city of Knoxville closed grocery stores and created a food desert that still remains today. As we move into the future of architecture and planning, community awareness as well as greener design opportunities are essential. The Swan Brothers’ Grocery store is a Co-operative venture that utilizes the building of the former Sawn Brothers’ Bread Bakery. The project began by designing a two-story house with a strict footprint of 70M max. The design is meant for young singles, couples, and families who are looking for starter homes that are eco and budget friendly. The houses were then taken and given a site. The site itself was lackluster and void of personality. The goal for the site was to design a neighborhood that has a strong sense of community, connections to nature, and breaks the traditional monotony of neighborhoods. Using this strange business as inspiration, our professor tasked the studio with designing a graveyard on the moon. Located near the Lacus-Mortus crater, the cemetery is an ever expanding, biomorphic organism that utilizes the potential of the individual in building a larger whole.
